My favorite blog articles that I read today, Wednesday, August 5, 2009:

1. Malware, Oversharing Lead Marines To Ban Social Networks by Ars Technica. What is the proper balance between information sharing and security? The Marine Corps is struggling to find the answer.

2. Google Using Billboards To Lure IT Into Google Apps Embrace by Ars Technica. With all the talk of old vs. new marketing, it appears that Google is experimenting with a combination of the two. It will be interesting to see how this turns out!

3. The Death Of Paid WiFi by TechDirt. Is fee based WiFi becoming a thing of the past? There are a few holdouts, however this appears to be the way the WiFi trend is heading.

Alexa Rank – 8.04.09

August 5th, 2009

by John R. Sedivy

As of our last monitoring of our Alexa rank as documented in “Alexa Rank – 7.30.09” we had a rank of 307,452. Our current rank as reported by Sparky is 287,717 a decrease of 19,735 from five days ago. Here are the next five websites that we are aware of with their corresponding rank:

1. Global Sugar Art – 287,107 (Increased 2,672)
2. MoleskinUS – 260,422
3. Harry Winston – 251,898 (Decreased 8,103)
4. Cake Journal – 250,366 (Decreased 9,337)
5. A&P – 233,930

Quite a few changes have occurred since our last Alexa discussion. We have since surpassed WP-Smooth which has since dropped from the list. We are no longer monitoring the rank of Hitsville as their rank has decreased significantly and are beyond our range of five websites. In the meantime we have added two websites – MoleskinUS and A&P, both of which I have discovered as a result of reading Meatball Sundae.

Best Blog Reading – 8.4.09

August 4th, 2009

by John R. Sedivy

My favorite blog articles that I read today, Tuesday, August 4, 2009:

1. Batter Blaster by Brand Autopsy. Although the product is innovative, the important ideas that this video conveys are really the important part. Marketing input into the product rather than an afterthought and how a product should solve an existing product.

2. Will It Blend? Glow Sticks by Blendtec. A glow stick smoothie!

3. Why Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg Are Wrong About Naming Web 3.0 “Web 3.0” by Scobleizer. This article provides some good arguments as to why “Web 2.0” and “Web 3.0” are poor designation and perhaps a “2010 Web” is more appropriate. This may seem trivial on the surface, but after reading this article it made me think.

4. The Borderless Internet And Jurisdictional Disputes: A Growing Problem by TechDirt. It appears that the lawyers have reached the blogosphere. Whose jurisdiction is a blogger under? The location where the server resides? The location of the author? Or maybe where the content is being viewed? An example is provided and one can only hope that we do not get too serious about this!

5. The Initiator by Seth Godin. A short article with an important concept. Good advice.
