Lucky Man Book Review
by John R. Sedivy
“Lucky Man” by Michael J. Fox is an interesting read and definitely worth a look. I had read this book after being intrigued while reading his most recent work “Always Looking Up” – both books have made an appearance on the New York Times Best Sellers List and are great reads. For a discussion on “Always Looking Up” read my article called “The Secret To Success.”
“Lucky Man” is an autobiography written by Michael J. Fox and chronicles his life from childhood until the mid-nineties. Based on this book, Fox has led an interesting life and very successful career – which has evolved from acting in a television sitcom, movies, back to television sitcom, and currently to Parkinson’s Disease cure champion and author.
What is most interesting about this book is his vulnerability in laying out his life story. This is consistent with his style of writing as demonstrated in “Always Looking Up” and what makes the book a great read. I really enjoy books such as these – someone who has achieved great success writing their life story and just putting it all other there – the good, bad, and ugly. Sometimes it is easy to view someone who has achieved great success as larger than life and forget that many, like Fox, have started out with humble beginnings.
I found many of the author’s discussions relevant and therefore I have taken away much from this book. I highly recommend “Lucky Man” to those building a career, starting a business, choosing an unconventional path, or those affected by Parkinson’s Disease. As with the autobiographies of other great men – there is likely something here for everyone. And once you have read this book, continue to Michael J. Fox’s most recent best seller, “Always Looking Up.”
