Facebook: How To Change Language Setting

Recently when traveling to Greece my Facebook account defaulted to the Greek language. My assumption was that when I returned to the United States Facebook would automatically update and return to English. This was not the case – after some effort I was finally able to change the language, but it was a bit difficult figuring it out. In addition there were a few friends who also had the same issue so I decided I would post the solution here should anyone else need assistance resolving this problem. The key is with this article I will post the solution but categorize it under easy to find tags for easy recall should the same problem occur at a later date.

The Solution
The difficult part about this issue is that in order to change the settings you must find the setting under Greek (or whatever other language your account mysteriously defaulted to) menus. I was able to find a shortcut – if you click this link it will take you directly to the language option and allow you to update it to English, or whatever your desired language, by selecting the language from the drop down menu:

http://www.facebook.com/editaccount.php?language

Once you do this it should take you back to the selected language. For those interested in the long process:

1. On your “Home” page select “Settings” which is the sixth option on the top menu
2. At the drop down menu select “Account Settings” which is the first option.
3. Select “Language” which is the fifth option on the top menu
4. Select your “Primary Language” from the drop down menu

That’s it – pretty easy solution to a painful problem!

Thanks – the link was very helpful. Turned on my computer today only to find everything was in Japanese characters, unfortunately my computer is not bilingual and interprets the characters as gobbledygook.
